AATS Ltd chosen to develop new programmes for UKWoodchain Industries
The sector body for skills in all wood industries has chosen AATS as its strategic partner in an exciting new initiative.
Materials handling - involving round and sawn timber or finished products - is a vital part of business activity in the sector's industries. AATS has designed training programmes that are now being piloted in Wales and will be made available later this year with the UKWoodchain seal of approval.
Companies looking to improve productivity and profitability are invited to register for the new programmes, which offer nationally recognised awards and qualifications.
Welsh business is first to get dual Learning Company award
AATS Ltd, a materials-handling training specialist has been accredited as a Learning Company for the quality of its services to companies in the wood industries and for its training materials. It is the first company in the UK to win the dual award and is the first business in Wales to win the accreditation.
Speaking for AATS, director Trevor Jones acknowledged the work his Board and staff had put into gaining accreditation. "We've always been committed to high standards of customer service but were unable until now to show the market that our training programmes stand above run-of-the-mill courses. By making an effort to incorporate the new National Occupational Standards for wood materials handling in our programmes, we've achieved Learning Company status and can now prove the quality of what we do and what we publish. Our customers will be the real winners, though, because our programmes will soon form the basis of a new qualification in materials handling."The company which trades through the UK, is waiting for UKWoodchain to complete the negotiations that will lead to a nationally-recognised qualification in materials handling in the sector. Expected by April 2008, the national qualification will accompany existing certification schemes but will provide evidence that an individual is competent in using specific machines while working with wood materials and products.
